    Interview with Brad Feld

Co-Founder, Director and Co-Chairman, Sage Networks

In an age filled with consumer advocates like Ralph Nader, HostIndex.com inquired whether Sage Networks foresees limited consumer choice or a hosting environment controlled by a select few as a result of industry consolidation. Will critics or government investigations surrounding the hosting industry develop? According to Mr. Feld, "There are no reasons to think so. The spread of things that are considered web hosting will expand; the functionality will become much more complex. The hosting business will grow very broadly."

This brought us to the issue of how the hosting business will grow broadly. We wanted to know where Mr. Feld felt that the hosting industry is headed, "The Internet continues to become more integrated into commerce. The fundamental nature of business is heading in this direction. Hosting is becoming more interactive and mission critical. Sage is aggressively working with higher end applications to understand needs of tomorrow's businesses."

This perked our attention - we asked for details, 'Sage is operating in three ways. The first is through building direct relationships with acquisitions of companies. The second is creating substantial relationships with leading Internet companies, such as our recent arrangement with iMALL.com. Third, Sage is taking advantages of our contacts and visible presence within the Internet industry." Feld also offered comment on the speculation of imminent involvement by telecommunications firms in the hosting industry, "I believe we will see partnerships with the telecommunication and broader infrastructure providers. There are a number of interested opportunities and arrangements which will be emerging in the next 90-120 days." However, Feld continues to believe that hosting and telecommunication players will remain independent.
